Dean Smith could not steer the Villans to victory at Villa Park despite boasting a man advantage later on in the game.
Aston Villa legend Ian Taylor has given his verdict on Dean Smith’s side following their display and result – a 0-0 draw – against West Ham on Monday night.
The Villans began brightly in the Premier League clash and could have gone ahead on 13 minutes when Wesley Moraes failed to home from Jack Grealish’s cross.
There was a flashpoint between two Villa players on 35 minutes when tempers flared between Tyrone Mings and Anwar El Ghazi, the latter appearing to push his head into his teammate’s face, but neither was punished by Mike Dean.
On the other hand, the Hammers did find themselves a man down in the second half when Arthur Masuaku was punished for a trip on Ahmed Elmohamady and sent off for a second bookable offence, though replays seemed to suggest that contact was minimal.
Villa could not make the most of their numerical advantage, however, and come full time, the spoils had to be shared as the hosts edged out of the Premier League’s bottom three, with Taylor giving the following verdict on Twitter:
Up next for Villa is Sunday’s Premier League trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Unai Emery’s Gunners, who are currently seventh in the table.
