Aston Villa icon Ian Taylor has claimed on Twitter that his side need to make January additions in the middle of the park after a winless run of five Championship matches.
Steve Bruce’s side suffered a 2-1 loss away at Brentford, leaving Villa without a win in over a month of Championship football with their last victory coming against Ipswich Town on November 25.
Just three points from a possible 15 has seen the Midlands giants drop into eighth in the table, with huge games against troublesome opposition in Middlesbrough and second-placed Bristol City up next.
Former Villa midfielder Taylor posted on Twitter claiming that his old side need new central midfielders, as well as making a worrying observation about the club’s promotion chances.
Bruce currently has the likes of Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury, Mile Jedinak and Glenn Whelan in the middle of the park, but the latter duo are well into their thirties, while Lansbury is yet to show the quality that he produced at Nottingham Forest.
Three points for Villa next time out against Tony Pulis’ newly-inherited side could see the club move back into the Championship’s top six, but a loss could see Taylor’s claim of mid-table obscurity begin to ring true.
