Everton take on Liverpool at Goodison Park this evening.
Speaking to ESPN, former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has praised Everton manager Ronald Koeman ahead of Monday night’s Merseyside derby.
Goodison Park plays host to the first Merseyside derby of the season this evening when Liverpool travel across Stanley Park to take on their fierce rivals.
It will be Dutchman Koeman’s first taste of the fixture since arriving at the club from Southampton in the summer.
The Blues head into the game full of confidence after a morale-boosting victory over Arsenal in midweek.
Koeman earned praise after that game and Rush has shared his opinion of the Toffees manager, as well as offering some advice to Liverpool for the game.
“I think Everton have a great manager, a bit like Jurgen Klopp, he knows when to play players and when not to play players,” he told ESPN.
“I think from Liverpool’s point of view, we got told don’t worry about the opposition because if we play to our ability we will win. I am sure Jurgen Klopp has said exactly the same.”
This Merseyside derby will certainly be an interesting one given the way the two teams have performed this season.
The Reds have been better and that is reflected in the fact they are five places and 11 points better off than their rivals at this stage.
Aside from the loss to Chelsea, Everton have proved their quality against the big sides this season and they will be hoping to do the same against their fierce rivals in this game.
