Ian McCall has admitted that he has been left ‘incredibly surprised’ by the impact Rangers-bound Jake Hastie has had at Motherwell this season.

The Ayr United manager would have seen Hastie in action when the 21-year-old was playing for Championship side Alloa on a temporary loan deal.

But since his return to Fir Park in January, the talented winger has impressed one and all with Rangers confirming on their official website on Wednesday that he will join the club in the summer.

Speaking to Sportsround on BBC Scotland (01/05/2019), Ayr manager McCall shared his thoughts on Hastie and the impact he has had this season.

“I’m incredibly surprised that he’s had that impact,” McCall told Sportsround. “I am not saying he was poor, but he didn’t look to me he was a player that was going to do what he’s done in these 12-14 games [since his return from Alloa] which is explode onto the scene at a big, big level and get his move to Rangers. He didn’t really stick out.”

Steven Gerrard is building a team to win the Scottish Premiership title next season after securing the runners-up spot for this campaign.

Winger Hastie will be one of the players that will be expected to produce the goods for the club next term as he will be making a big step up.

It has been a rapid rise for the versatile attacker, who was only playing in Scotland’s second tier over six months ago and now he could be playing in Europe in a few months time.

Over the course of the season, Hastie has scored six goals in the Premiership and he will be hoping to bring that goal threat to Ibrox with him [transfermarkt].
