Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs and Unai Emery’s Gunners have both made progress this transfer window.
Ian Holloway has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now a more attractive proposition than Arsenal for prospective young players to join, as reported by talkSPORT.
Both North London rivals have made progress in this summer’s transfer window, with Spurs breaking their club record to sign Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele as well as signing – and immediately loaning back – Leeds United’s Jack Clarke.
The Gunners, meanwhile, have had a busy end to the working week with the signing of William Saliba from Saint Etienne plus a loan move for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
As stated by talkSPORT, there has been debate online about whether the Arsenal new-boys snubbed interest from Tottenham to join Unai Emery’s side or whether Spurs did the snubbing, in turn prompting the two to join Arsenal.
Holloway says that the difference between the two clubs is in the dugout, namely Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, because there is something about him that, in the veteran coach’s words, “would make me want to die for him”, although he does still acknowledge that Emery is a “brilliant” manager.
“If I was a young player right now I would probably go to Spurs, because of their manager,” Holloway said on Friday’s Sports Breakfast.
“Mr Emery has a fantastic record and is a brilliant manager, but for me there’s something about Pochettino that would make me want to die for him. He’s got those eyes, he’s trustworthy and for a player it’s all about wanting to do that.”
The first North London derby of the 2019-20 Premier League season takes place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on 1 September, while the reverse at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is on 25 April.
