The pundit has been lauding the Burnley midfielder.
Ian Holloway says Joey Barton would captain his Championship XI, according to Sky Sports.
Indeed, the Burnley midfielder has shone for Sean Dyche’s men this season.
And the pundit has duly rewarded him with the ultimate role in his fantasy Championship team.
Holloway told Sky Sports: “He’d be my captain. His experience and ability to inspire people around him has been the backbone of Burnley’s success.”
Barton is perfectly suited to the Championship. As he proved at Queens Park Rangers, however, the Premier League is a different kettle of fish.
Speaking of fish, the 33-year-old was like one out of water in the top flight. All Barton ended up doing was committing fouls and hoofing the ball upfield, when what the division really required was more technical expertise and precision.
It remains to be seen whether Barton can do better at a better team, however. Burnley know what not to do if they get promoted – they did go straight back down, after all.
Barton has clearly proven himself in the Championship – how will he do in the Premier League?
