Sky Sports pundit Ian Holloway believes Norwich City will head into the international break above Newcastle United in the Championship table.

Norwich, who let slip a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 at Newcastle on Wednesday – conceding twice in stoppage time, remain second for the time being, with the Magpies a point and a place behind them in third.

The Canaries face arguably the more difficult of the two sides’ weekend fixtures, with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers in store.

However, Holloway is tipping Alex Neil’s men to come out on top at Molineux, by two goals to one, rendering Newcastle’s result irrelevant in terms of league position.

Nevertheless, the former Leicester City and Crystal Palace boss thinks the Magpies will secure a routine 2-0 win at rock-bottom Rotherham United.

“Rafa Benitez’s side will get a big boost from their win over Norwich, and Dwight Gayle could be among the goals again this weekend,” wrote Holloway in his weekly Sky Sports predictions column.

“Coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 could be the result that puts them on a right good run. They are starting to show their pedigree.”

Despite Norwich’s defeat at St. James’ Park, Holloway added of the Canaries: “They will be really dangerous right now. They are like a wounded animal and I think they’ll come after Wolves.

“It’s all looking rosy for Wolves supporters with the new investment, but Norwich will be too strong, just like I felt Newcastle would be a little too strong for Norwich in midweek.”

However, with Wolves currently 11th in the table and unpredictable thus far, the 53-year-old issued a warning to the East Anglians.

“This is one I could definitely get wrong, though, because Wolves turned over Newcastle at St James’, and they could do the same to Norwich. But I have a funny feeling Alex Neil’s side are too good to lose two in a row.”

Huddersfield currently lead the Championship promotion race by two points after 10 rounds of matches.
