Ian Holloway is backing Newcastle United to thump Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Ian Holloway has told Sky Sports that he expects high-flying Newcastle United to maintain their excellent form by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Newcastle go into the contest on the back of a morale-boosting 6-0 win at QPR in midweek, for a victory which means that Rafael Benitez’s troops have a five-match winning streak to protect ahead this weekend’s clash at St James’s Park.

The Magpies lost their first two Championship matches, but Benitez and co have looked superb since those wake-up calls and it is easy to worry for Walter Zenga’s side.

Wolves travel to the North East after losing 4-0 at Barnsley in midweek, with Zenga claiming to BBC that his players simply “gave up” in a very honest post-match interview.

They have won two, lost two and drawn three of their first seven Championship games, which is quite erratic thus far, but Holloway can see nothing but a home win on Saturday, describing it as a “banker”.

“This is a banker of a home win – Wolves just lost 4-0 at home to Barnsley and they are travelling to Newcastle, where everything is rocking and rolling at the minute, and it could even be more than that,” he wrote in Sky Sports.

Sure, the signs point to a home win, but Newcastle can be vulnerable, as we saw in the opening couple of weeks, though it remains to be seen if Zenga’s troops can exploit their weaknesses.
