Aston Villa will be looking for their second win of the season at Portman Road.
Ian Holloway expects Aston Villa’s woes to continue beyond this weekend after predicting a defeat for Roberto Di Matteo’s side at Ipswich Town, writing in Sky Sports.
The Villans go into the contest with just one win in seven Championship games – not enough for a side who were people’s pre-season tips to win promotion.
There seems to be a fragility about Aston Villa, who have conceded late equalisers in their past two games – Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford, and Sunday’s 2-2 stalemate with Nottingham Forest – which has cost them four points.
Both of those results came at Villa Park, and Di Matteo’s troops may be somewhat relieved to be playing away from home, but Portman Road is hardly an ideal location at the moment.
Mick McCarthy’s side have won two of their last three Championship games and they should, on current form, have a bit too much for a Villa side who might be missing Jack Grealish and Ross McCormack with hamstring and knee injuries.
Holloway backed Villa to be beaten by Brentford, and the ex-Blackpool boss is going with the same prediction for this Saturday.
“It will be easier away from home for Villa than at home, but Mick [McCarthy] did not let me down the other day when I said they would win, and they did [at Derby],” he wrote in Sky Sports.
“I am stuck between a draw and a home win…. However, I am going to go for a 1-0 home win with Ipswich on a bit of a roll at present.”
