The Bees are about to inflict more home misery on Villa, Ollie reckons.

Sky pundit Ian Holloway believes a shock is on the cards when Aston Villa host Brentford in the Championship on Wednesday evening.

The Villans are struggling to adapt to their new surroundings, winning one of their opening six league fixtures since dropping out of the top flight in May.

An 87th-minute equaliser from Nottingham Forest’s Henri Lansbury on Sunday saw Roberto di Matteo’s side end the weekend in 17th position – and, according to Holloway, their situation is not going to improve in a hurry.

“I didn’t see Brentford’s wonderful win at Brighton on Saturday coming,” wrote the former Leicester City and Crystal Palace manager in his regular Sky Sports predictions column. “I put them in the relegation zone in my pre-season predictions and I apologise wholeheartedly, they’ve lost some good players but they’ve got some good ones in.

“What about Scott Hogan’s goal at the weekend? He jinked, he twisted and smacked it in the top corner. Unbelievable!

“So I’m giving another away victory to Brentford. I think it’s difficult for Aston Villa to win at home in front of that crowd when you’re expected to. Brentford will be a tough nut to crack.

“1-2.”

Depending on results elsewhere, a win could lift eighth-place Brentford into a top six position, having collected 10 points from their six league matches so far.

However, a win for Villa would see them close to within a point of the Bees’ early-season tally.

The Villans, a top flight outfit for 29 straight seasons before this one, spent close to £60 million on new signings during the summer transfer window – around 20 times more than Wednesday night’s opponents.
