Queens Park Rangers are preparing for their first Championship match of the season this weekend.

Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway has told the Kilburn Times that Jake Bidwell has been fantastic in training throughout pre-season.

Bidwell missed QPR’s latest friendly against Bournemouth, leading to some concerns forming about the defender.

However, Holloway insists that Bidwell is simply ill and should be back in time to play when Rangers’ competitive campaign gets under way this weekend.

“Jake’s been fantastic in training, but got ill overnight and was sick three or four times,” Holloway said, following QPR’s 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

“Unfortunately, these things happen. It is going to cause you a problem if all the work we did was with him playing, so it does rock you a bit.”

Bidwell is likely to start for QPR in their first Championship match of the season, which comes against Reading this weekend.

QPR face a tough challenge in the contest, as Reading made it into the play offs last term.

Rangers, meanwhile, occupied a spot in the bottom half and will be under pressure to improve this time around.

Holloway hasn’t made dramatic changes to his QPR team over the summer transfer window, but more new arrivals are expected to sign up at Loftus Road before the end of the month.
