Queens Park Rangers beaten Birmingham City 4-1 at St. Andrews in their most recent outing.
Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway has told TalkSPORT that Birmingham City fans were out of order with their treatment of Gianfranco Zola.
QPR beat Birmingham 4-1 last weekend, and the crowd at St. Andrews turned on Zola.
Chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ were audible from the Blues fans towards the Italian boss.
But Holloway has defended Zola from the criticism that he faced from Birmingham’s supporters.
“I don’t like it. I don’t think that is right. It is a lack of respect,” Zola said.
“I heard the funniest thing ever away at Wolves – ‘you’re just a not very good Gary Neville’. That was really funny and great banter, but this wasn’t.
“If you are asked to change the style of football and play a different way, when there wasn’t a lot wrong with what they were doing anyway because they were winning, it is different. Birmingham are trying to do it in a couple of months [change their style]. It doesn’t work.”
Zola’s appointment at Birmingham was not met with a good response in the first place.
Gary Rowett was popular at St. Andrews, and his dismissal did not go down well.
Zola was immediately under pressure to start well, but things have not gone according to plan.
Zola has won just one of his first 14 games in charge of the Blues, and the Midlands side have slipped all the way down to 14th in the Championship table.
