Ian Holloway has made it clear that Eddie Nketiah and Helder Costa need to get used to Marcelo Bielsa’s ‘pressing structure’ if they are to start games.

The attacking duo came off the bench on Wednesday night to help Leeds record a 1-0 win over Brentford, with Costa providing Nketiah with an assist for his first Championship goal.

Previously, the duo impressed during Leeds’ League Cup win against League Two side Salford, but they have now proved their worth against their potential promotion rivals.

Speaking to EFL on Quest (21/08/2019 at 10:45 pm), Holloway praised Leeds for their performance against Brentford as he commented on Nketiah and Costa.

“Fantastic game,” Hollway told EFL on Quest. “They [Brentford] tried to stop and quash Leeds but Bielsa did it again.

On Nketiah & Costa starting on the bench: “They haven’t earned the right to be in there yet. He’s added them to the squad because they lost Kemar Roofe. But what he needs them to do is work at his pressing structure of the front six.

On everybody putting a shift in: “But they did it under pressure. Their home form was looking a little wobbly if you add the last few [home games] of last season. That was a big test against a very good Brentford team.”

Those three points against Brentford mean that Leeds are unbeaten in their opening four Championship games, and as a result, sit top of the table.

At the weekend, they will travel to Staffordshire to take on struggling Stoke City, who were beaten 3-1 at Preston North End on Wednesday night.

Nathan Jones’ side are sitting bottom of the Championship table and this is the ample opportunity for Leeds to record yet another three points.
