Newcastle United will be looking to finish the season with a high after the international break.
Ian Holloway has expressed his amazement at Newcastle’s front line and, in particular, striker Salomon Rondon as he admitted that he ‘didn’t realise’ how good the player was.
Last summer, the Magpies opted sign Rondon on-loan from relegated club West Brom, with Dwight Gayle moving in the other direction.
After a slow start, the 29-year-old has become a firm fan favourite for his style of play, non-stop work rate and the importance he holds to the team.
Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (18/03/2019 at 12:45 pm), former Premier League manager Holloway admitted that he is a fan of Rondon.
“I think it’s amazing the forward line they’ve got now, obviously with Matt [Ritchie] putting some service in,” Holloway told talkSPORT. “But I think the signing of Rondon, I didn’t realise how good he was.”
It remains to be seen if Rondon is still at St James’ Park next season because his loan deal will expire in the summer, with his parent club currently sitting in the Championship play-offs.
It is highly likely that Albion will finish in the top-six and if they are to earn promotion then they will have to do it via the dreaded play-offs, but they are currently without a permanent manager following the sacking of Darren Moore.
During his time in England’s top-flight, Rondon has played 133 matches for two clubs, scoring 33 goals and supplying his teammates with 13 assists [transfermarkt].
After suffering relegation with the Baggies last season, Rondon will be hoping to end this campaign on a high as the Toon Army have a chance to finish in the top 10 if they continue their recent good form.
