Ian Harte hit out at the Leeds United supporters who criticised the former left-back in the wake of Jack Clarke’s move away from Elland Road.

Ian Harte has suggested on Twitter that some fans are clueless after he was criticised by a number of Leeds fans following the announcement that Jack Clarke has completed his move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The announcement that everyone expected was made on Tuesday as Spurs made the winger their first signing since the 2018 January window. And Harte – who is Clarke’s agent – sent the teenager a message of congratulations on social media.

However, Harte’s message did not go down at all well with a number of Leeds fans on Twitter. The former Republic of Ireland international spent almost a decade on the club’s books during his playing days, and some of the supporters took exception to his decision to congratulate a player on leaving the Whites.

It is, of course, not clear what advice Harte may have had for Clarke over his future. But some fans also suspect that he would have advised the winger to make the move – and his motives behind potentially backing a Spurs switch have been questioned.

But Harte has hit back at the criticism that he has received, insisting that some of the supporters are clueless for questioning his love for the Championship club…

The message has attracted a mixed response from the fans. Some have backed Harte’s stance and defended his comments, others who had little problem with him congratulating Clarke have now criticised his decision to label some clueless, and of course, there are plenty who are even more angry.
