Leeds United have announced that Niall Huggins has committed his future to the club until 2023.

The 19-year-old is one of the many talents that United boast in the academy right now.

His existing deal – signed last year – was due to expire in June, but Leeds have now handed the young full-back a two-year extension.

United boss Marcelo Bielsa is clearly a fan, evident by the fact he brought Huggins on the trip for their recent win at Everton, though he wasn’t included among the substitutes.

The teenager is managed by Leeds legend Ian Harte.

And here’s how the Irishman reacted to the news of his extension on Twitter:

Not every young player is deemed exciting enough to make Bielsa’s coach trip for an away game and even though he wasn’t officially included in the squad, his presence indicates that he’s highly thought of at Thorp Arch.

With Leeds being a Premier League side now, there’s less room for experimentation, but Bielsa’s side visit Crawley Town in the FA Cup next month and Huggins could well make his senior debut then.
