Jack Clarke enhanced his burgeoning reputation at Leeds United on Friday with a brilliant performance for the Under-23 side.
The 17-year-old dazzled in Leeds’ 5-0 demolition of their Bristol City equivalents, setting up Patrick Bamford’s opener, before adding a third himself on 23 minutes.
Jack Harrison, one of five first-team players to start the game yesterday, whipped an excellent cross to the back post and Clarke guided the ball home with a wonderful first-time volley.
It was Clarke’s third goal in a week after netting twice against Cardiff City last time around, and Leeds legend Ian Harte, who represents the teenager, reacted to the goal on Twitter:
As brilliant as Clarke can be down the line, Leeds fans are unlikely to see him in a competitive game this season, unless it’s the FA Cup.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup, which was Clarke’s best chance of making a senior appearance this season you feel.
The Whites are top of the Championship and so far mounting a serious promotion challenge, meaning that Bielsa has little room to experiment.
Simply put, United don’t need Clarke at the moment, but they certainly will at some point in the future.
