Leeds United beat Norwich City on penalties in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening, prompting plenty of reactions on Twitter.

The Whites were hoping to make it through to the last eight having seen off Fleetwood Town, Luton Town and Blackburn Rovers in previous rounds, but fell behind when Alex Pritchard put the Canaries ahead.

Marcus Antonsson responded with an equaliser before half time, and with no more goals before full time, the game went to penalties – and with Lewie Coyle injured and all three substitutes made, Leeds had to play out the entirety of extra time with just ten men.

Nelson Oliveira’s 99th minute goal for Norwich looked to have seen Leeds off, but Garry Monk’s men hit back again with Chris Wood’s equaliser sending the game to penalties.

As if that wasn’t dramatic enough, Leeds took a 2-0 lead on penalties after Marco Silvestri saved from Pritchard and Steven Naismith, before Leeds failed to score twice, enabling Norwich to get back to 2-2 after four penalties each.

Robbie Brady’s attempt was then saved by Silvestri, with teenage midfielder Ronaldo Vieira stepping up to score the winning penalty and send Leeds into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

Vieira’s goal from the penalty spot sparked mass celebrations at Elland Road, and the win also prompted reactions on Twitter too.

Former Leeds players Andy Couzens, Michael Bridges and Ian Harte all celebrated the victory, with Couzens suggesting that Monk’s squad rotation paid off, and Bridges admitting it was great to see Elland Road rocking again.

Finally, Football League pundit Adam Virgo claimed that manager Monk is taking Leeds forward once again, adding that the club are gathering real momentum after another victory.
