Rangers fell further behind in the race for the Scottish Premiership title at the weekend.

Ian Durrant has been critical of Rangers trio Jermain Defoe, Steven Davis and Kyle Lafferty because he feels they were brought to the club to win games against the likes of St Johnstone.

All three players either started (Defoe & Davis) or came off the bench (Lafferty) during their costly goalless draw against Tommy Wright’s side at the weekend.

Without star man Alfredo Morelos, who was serving a suspension, the Gers produced a lacklustre display and failed to really threaten the opposition at Ibrox.

Durrant stated that Steve Gerrard would be ‘disappointed’ with the points his team have dropped on home soil this term and insisted he’s ‘not having a go’ at others in the team as they failed to deliver the goods without their star man.

“I only know Steven Gerrard to say hello to and he’ll be disappointed with the points they’ve dropped at home,” said Durrant, as quoted by HearldScotland.

“The Rangers nine-in-a-row teams had a knack of knowing how to win games and they signed Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis and, along with Kyle Lafferty, they are guys who would be expected to in you games.

“I know they were missing Alfredo Morelos and I’m not having a go at the others or disrespecting St Johnstone but that’s the type of game they need to win.”

Both striker Defoe and midfielder Davis were brought to the club during the January transfer window, while Lafferty has seen his game time reduced because of the form of his striker counterpart.

Nonetheless, in the two matches without Molreos, Rangers recorded goalless draws, first against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup then in their league encounter at the weekend.

Morelos will be back in a Rangers shirt on Wednesday when his team look to progress to the next round of the Scottish Cup as they play their replay against Killie.

They will then travel to Hamilton on Sunday afternoon as they hope to reduce the eight-point lead Celtic have on them in the table after their last-minute winner on Sunday.
