Football commentator Ian Darke told ESPN that Dortmund have ‘sent out a message’ that they don’t want to sell reported Liverpool target, Erling Haaland.
As suggested by ESPN, the German club seemingly want a tad over £150 million for their thriving hitman if they have to part ways with him this summer.
A number of clubs in England, including Liverpool, are keen on signing the Norway international, with Jurgen Klopp willing to sell one of his front three to do so, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
But Darke thinks BVB’s stance on Haaland is ‘a shade’ of what happened to Jadon Sancho last summer.
“I think it’s a shade of the Jadon Sancho story from last summer when Manchester United thought they were going to get their man and Dortmund kept holding out for the figure they wanted,” said Darke.
“I think they are sending out a message again here that they don’t really want to sell him unless somebody is going to break the bank.
“Well, interestingly enough, there might be a couple of clubs, even in this COVID crisis, who would break the bank and two of them are in England in Manchester City and Chelsea, who could afford to do it.
“The kid is dynamite. He’s re-writing the record books and he’s a fantastic player. He can change the fortunes for almost any club that he signs for.”
Whether it’s this summer or next, it seems as though it’s only a matter of time before Haaland is rocking up at one of the bigger boys in Europe and strutting his stuff.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two standout performers of the last 15 years and it seems as though Haaland and Kylian Mbappe are ready to take their place once they hand up their coveted boots.
Both will have to produce performances out of this world if they are to match their feats but it seems they are heading towards serious success during these coming years.
