Rangers have not yet made a new bid for Jamie Walker, according to Ian Cathro.

Hearts manager Ian Cathro has told The Express that there has been no new offer from Rangers for winger Jamie Walker despite speculation about another bid.

Rangers have already added nine new faces this summer, with two wingers – Portuguese duo Dalcio and Daniel Candeias – arriving as part of Pedro Caixinha’s overhaul.

However, with Barrie McKay sold to Nottingham Forest, another winger may still be needed before the end of the transfer window, and fans want a player with some experience of Scottish football.

The leading target for Rangers to fill that role is Hearts star Jamie Walker, with BBC Sport reporting that the Gers have failed with two bids for the Scot this summer.

Edinburgh-born Walker, 24, has come up through the ranks with Hearts, becoming a key first-team player with over 150 appearances to his name.

The winger enjoyed his best campaign to date last season, notching 15 goals in all competitions to unsurprisingly attract major interest in the summer transfer window.

Hearts aren’t in the strongest of positions with Walker, given that his contract expires next summer and he could leave for free in 2018, and The Scottish Sun report that Rangers will lodge one final bid for Walker.

However, Hearts manager Ian Cathro has now told The Express that the club have yet to receive a new bid from Rangers, and he even suggested that other clubs could enter the race to sign him.

“No. Maybe another club might want him, I think everyone has forgotten that’s a possibility,” said Cathro. “You can’t pretend there won’t be interest between now and the closing of the window, though.”

“We would love to have him here for a longer period of time. He’s a player who is at a level which should be rewarded as well. Those things are in all play but I wouldn’t go any further than that,” he added.
