Ex-Rangers midfielder Ian Black has shared his main regret from his time at Ibrox, in an interview with the Daily Record.

Black, who was released at the end of his contract last summer, is now with English League One side Shrewsbury Town.

The 31-year-old played 115 times for the Light Blues, scoring on eight occasions, and was promotion in two of his three seasons at the club, helping them to the Championship from League Two.

“I have been there, done it and wore the t-shirt at Rangers but I would have loved the opportunity to have played under Mark Warburton,” Black revealed via the Daily Record. “He wants to play the game the right way, the same way as Brendan Rodgers at Celtic. It’s about patience and you see the likes of Barcelona who keep the ball and then hit you on the counter and Warburton is trying to breed that into Rangers.

“Even in the first 20 minutes they matched Celtic (in last weekend’s 5-1 Old Firm defeat) and then it went pear shaped. He’s always backing his players and telling them to play the proper way.”

Warburton has faced criticism following Rangers’ poor start to life back in Scotland’s highest division, with the Light Blues having accumulated nine points from their six matches so far.

Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Ross County leaves the Glasgow giants fifth in the standings, although victory against Aberdeen this weekend will see them move up at least a place and potentially into second.

Black, who played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Heart of the Midlothian before signing for Rangers in 2012, has also backed Joey Barton to make amends upon his return from a three-week suspension.
