With Tottenham taking on Juventus in the Champions League this week it was no surprise to see the opinion of Spanish winger Iago Falque being sought.

He spent time at both clubs and is now still playing in Turin, with Juve’s rivals Torino.

The flying winger has an illustrious history. Spells at Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona were the precursor to his Spurs arrival in 2012.

But speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport this week he admitted that his reasons for joining Spurs were not exactly admirable.

He stated:

“Tottenham was the wrong choice: I looked for the money and not the sporting challenge, I saw the ugliest part of the game

“I was just a number, zero consideration, but that also made me stronger.”

There are certainly not many players now who would suggest heading to Spurs would be a financial decision, but for a young player he would have been paid well to have made the switch to North London.

Of course he never made it at Spurs, with injury problems and a player called Gareth Bale blocking his pathway.

Clearly Falque is not fond of his time at Tottenham, where he made just one appearance for the first-team.

Now he is at Torino and is having a good season with the club. Despite his negative experiences at Tottenham he will surely hope to see them topple his new rivals Juventus out of the Champions League.
