The Spaniard is currently on top form at Torino.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfield prospect Iago Falque has been commenting on his gamble gone wrong in heading to London earlier in his career in an interview with La Repubblica this week.

The talented Spaniard struggled to make an impact during his time at Spurs and told the Italian paper that his gamble to join the club failed as he was never given a chance over future superstar Gareth Bale:

“Torino? An ambitious project. In the past I have taken the wrong bet, I went to Tottenham, not realizing that with Bale I would never see the field.

“Here, however, (Urbano) Cairo (Torino president), (Gianluca) Petrachi (sporting director) and (Sinisa) Mihajlovic (head coach) made me realize how much I can give, in my natural role, and that’s what a player should go look.”

Bale has of course gone on to become one of the best footballers in the world and Falque can have no shame in losing a battle for first-team football with him.

The flying winger has an illustrious history. Spells at Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona were the precursor to his Spurs arrival in 2012.

But he struggled with injury problems as well as competition for places at White Hart Lane and in 2014 made a switch to Italy with Genoa.

After an excellent season with the Rossoblu he joined Roma but again struggled for first-team football – joining current club Torino on loan in July.

He is now back in great form, scoring five goals in nine appearances – including a brace against his parent club Roma in September.

Tottenham fans will no doubt wish their former player all the best, after his roll of the dice at White Hart Lane failed to pay up.
