Darren Ambrose has admitted that he would have ‘happily’ seen Tottenham sign, Troy Deeney, this summer, as he told talkSPORT.
The 33-year-old was on Watford’s books up until this summer, before he parted ways with a club that he had served for over ten years.
Deeney was searching for regular football before his boyhood club, Birmingham City, came knocking and he made the drop down to the Championship.
But ex-Crystal Palace player and Tottenham fan, Ambrose, stated that he would have taken the English powerhouse as a back-up option in North London.
“I was surprised when Watford let him go,” said Ambrose. “I feel he can (do it in the Premier League).
“I am going to say as far as, I would have had him at Tottenham, for sure. I say this because Harry Kane has stayed now and he is always going to play.
“To get someone in, as a centre-forward, they need to know that they need to be a back-up striker. I think he would have happily done that.
“I think he gives you something extra. If you look at when Spurs played Watford, he could have caused problems like he always does.”
Spurs have always been searching for that back-up striker to Harry Kane and many have tried, but failed to deliver the goods.
Carlos Vinicius was the man warming the bench last season, including a certain Vincent Janssen, who was the first to take on that role behind Kane many years ago now.
Perhaps the best of the lot was Fernando Llorente, who faired the best when Mauricio Pochettino was donning the touchline.
Now, Nuno Espirito Santo is relying upon the youngsters and Heung-Min Son to play that role, if need be.
