Michael Owen doesn’t think Leeds United deserved to survive relegation from the Premier League.
But the former striker added that he likes having Leeds in the Premier League because of their ‘great fanbase’ and ‘great history’.
On the final day of the Premier League campaign, whilst a lot of eyes were on the Etihad and Anfield.
Over in Brentford, the Whites were creating history of their own by pipping Burnley, who lost at home to Newcastle United, to safety.
After Leeds secured their survival, there would have been a huge sigh of relief across Yorkshire, as Owen told Premier League Productions (22/05/22 at 7:20 pm) that there was a lot of pressure on them.
“We spoke about pressure and focused a lot on the race for the Premier League title,” said Owen.
“But there is nothing quite like the pressure at the other end. To go away from home and win, when the pressure is on, I like having Leeds in the Premier League.
“I think they have a great fanbase, big team and a great history. They have been fun to watch.
“I wouldn’t say they deserved it because it has been a real tight fight down there. It has been a great battle. But they will be as happy as Manchester City.”

LEEDS AVOID DROPPING INTO ANOTHER DEEP HOLE
Leeds spent nearly two decades in England’s lower leagues, so they know what a deep hole they can get themselves into.
The one big positive they can take from this campaign is that it’s obvious where it has gone wrong and what needs to change.
There will be a number of things Jesse Marsch needs to improve, including adding some much-needed depth in quality.
That’s one thing they haven’t had since their promotion, so perhaps that can aid any injury woes they have to suffer throughout the season.
