Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of Leeds United vs Chelsea (13/3/20 11:30AM), Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Chris Wilder will one day have a statue erected outside of Bramall Lane amid rumours he’s set to leave Sheffield United.
Rumours have been circulating about the Sheffield United boss leaving the Blades in the very near future, and Ferdinand spoke about the boss’ potential departure.
Ferdinand was asked if Wilder will go down as United’s greatest ever manager, to which he replied:
“Definitely, and he leaves with his head completely held high. Listen, he won the Manager of the Year award, the LMA award and he was the runner-up last year as well”
“It speaks volumes of what he’s done, he joined the club in League One and got them to the Premier League and almost got them to Europe. This guy won’t be scratching around to get a club, I think there’ll be loads of suitors trying to get him to be a manager at their club.
“Whole-hearted Sheffield United fan. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a statue outside of the stadium there one day.”

A statue outside of Bramall Lane would be more than deserved for Wilder.
The man has absolutely transformed the club as a manager, and he gave years of service as a player, and on top of that, he’s a local lad who grew up as a fan.
Wilder embodies everything Sheffield United is and everything Sheffield United should be, and it’s sad to see him leaving.
