Darren Ambrose has backed Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United before Friday’s transfer deadline day.

To say life has been tough for Harry Maguire at Manchester United would be an understatement.

Ambrose thinks that the England international needs to ‘resurrect’ his faltering career, as he backed him to move to Tottenham from Old Trafford, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (28/08/23 at 7:15 pm).

Tottenham proved during their EFL Cup defeat to Fulham on Tuesday that freshness is needed at the back, with Davinson Sanchez struggling again.

Of course, they would need to get players out before bringing them in, with Eric Dier not featuring in the matchday squad again, it’s pretty clear that his future lies elsewhere.

Either way, former Premier League midfielder Ambrose, who is a Spurs fan, wants Maguire at Hotspur Way, if possible.

“He is a talented player,” said Ambrose. “He hasn’t had a great couple of years at Manchester United. We know that confidence plays a big issue.

“I think he is a talented football player. I would have him at Tottenham. I am a Spurs fan. I would have him.

“I think he needs to resurrect his career somewhere, whether that’s West Ham or Spurs, that is taking a step down from a huge club like Manchester United. The timing and the fee that was put on him, I just don’t think he was ready for that coming from Leicester.

“But there is a talented player in there. He just needs to go somewhere, play games and build his career back up.”

Maguire needs to leave Man United

This isn’t healthy for the 30-year-old and he is only harming the long-term future of his career if he stays put.

Maguire needs to bite the bullet and move to a team that will provide him with a fresh platform to get his career going again because, at Old Trafford, he is only one poor performance away from getting verbally battered.

Plus, it won’t be too long before Gareth Southgate stops picking him for England, especially with Euro 2024 around the corner.
