Pep Guardiola has compared Manchester City winger Ferran Torres to Leicester City star Jamie Vardy.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News after City’s 5-0 demolition over Arsenal, the Catalan manager praised the Spanish international for his performance against the Gunners. Torres scored twice against Mikel Arteta’s side.
The forward operated in the centre-forward role with Gabriel Jesus once again playing out on the wing. And the system worked a treat, with Arsenal’s woeful defence not having the quality to withstand the City attack.
Indeed, it was an incredible performance from Torres, who could have scored more on the day. And Guardiola’s comments on the attacker could hint towards the club once again going a second season without a natural number 9.
The City manager said: “I would say the last season Ferran played was exceptional. He played incredibly well. Now in this position, he makes movements like the best strikers in behind, like Jamie Vardy.
Guardiola added with: “He is an incredibly good finisher, the goal against Norwich that was disallowed the finishing was good. We are incredibly pleased with his movement his work ethic with many things.”

Torres could replace Aguero this season
Torres was one of City’s most reliable goalscorers last season. And the winger, who was naturally a playmaker coming through at Valencia, was also in good attacking for Spain during this summer’s Euros.
Indeed, with the transfer window closing in two days, Torres could be the man to replace Sergio Aguero this season. The iconic City striker left this summer following the expiration of his contract.

With Harry Kane staying at Tottenham and Cristiano Ronaldo signing for Manchester United, City have few options to look at in the remaining days of the market.
Moreover, Guardiola’s comments on Torres could indicate that the City boss will use the Spanish international as his focal point in the attack this season.
