Milot Rashica will not be leaving Werder Bremen in January despite claims suggesting a move to Aston Villa is back on, sporting director Frank Baumann has told BILD.
This may be a transfer rumour with more twists and turns than an M Night Shyamalan thriller, but it seems Villa fans cannot expect a happy ending with the winter transfer window just a few weeks away.
Deich Stube reported on Friday that Dean Smith’s side were once again keeping tabs on Rashica, with the Kosovo international winger starting to get back on track after an injury-hit start to the new campaign.
Aston Villa triggered the £20 million release clause in Rashica’s contract during the final few weeks of the summer window but a deal failed to materialise, largely due to the £75,000-a-week demands of a former Vitesse Arnhem talisman (Birmingham Mail).
Former Germany international Baumann confirmed in September that the Midland giants were indeed interested in his star man (BuliNews).
But, speaking nearly three months on, the Werder Bremen director is keen to play down suggestions that Rashica could finally be on his way to England in January.
“I would rule out (any of our players) leaving in winter,” Baumann explains.

The quicksilver winger played a major role as Werder Bremen, Bundesliga champions in 2004, narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier last term. But, in truth, his form has dropped off the proverbial cliff after a superb start to 2019/20.
Since the turn of the year, Rashica has scored just once in 15 league matches.
