It took over two months, but Tottenham Hotspur have finally found a new manager.
Spurs fired Jose Mourinho in April and only this week did they announce the appointment of former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Portuguese coach got Wanderers promoted into the Premier League and, more importantly, established them as a top-flight club.
Here’s how Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – who has a semi-final of Euro 2020 with Denmark on the horizon – reacted to the news:
He told BT in Denmark: “Congratulations to him [Nuno] and congratulations to the club. It will be interesting. But I would like to wait a bit to meet him because of things we need to finish here [at the Euros].”
Quite a lot of Tottenham fans were underwhelmed by Nuno’s appointment, which is understandable when you consider the fact that much more exciting names were linked to the role.
Before Nuno, there was Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte who were rumoured to be close to the job.
Before that, Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann were heavily linked, so to end up with the former Wolves manager is a tad underwhelming and even some of the players may feel the same.
But there’s a different being a big name and a big player on the pitch and the same principle applies off it.
Tottenham haven’t won a trophy with Pochettino or Mourinho at the helm, both big names, so there’s nothing to suggest Nuno won’t be successful.
