Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho says he expects his club to be sensible in the transfer market and avoid reckless spending, inews report.

The current Covid-19 suspension has given clubs some time to assess their squad and reflect ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Spurs have several areas they must look to strengthen.

When asked by reporters on Tottenham’s summer transfer plans, Mourinho says he expects the North London club to act responsibly and keep a lid on big spending.

“If you ask me what I would like in my club, I would like my club to be what I know it is going to be – it is going to be sensible, it is going to be balanced, it is not going to spend rivers of money,” Mourinho explained.

Tottenham suffered a poor run of form prior to the suspension of football.

Exits from the Champions League and FA Cup ensued, while three straight Premier League defeats have placed doubts over a possible top four finish.

With five goals scored in their last six games, Spurs simply lack firepower.

The injury to Harry Kane has left a huge void upfront. Mourinho must look to address his striker options, while more creativity following Christian Eriksen’s January sale and two more defenders should also be high on the club’s wish-list.

Todo Fichajes claim Tottenham want Real Betis striker Loren Moron. Barcelona’s Arthur Melo has been cited as an option by Mundo Deportivo, while Bladi.net claim Real Madrid’s speedy fullback Achraf Hakimi is also a Spurs target.

But whether Spurs manage to sign players of this ilk remains to be seen.
