
Some Everton fans on social media have been reacting after footage emerged of Gareth Southgate seemingly snubbing Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s offer of a handshake after England beat Germany.
Calvert-Lewin was left out of the matchday squad to face Germany, despite the fact he’s one of only two recognised number nines England have at this tournament, and after the game, Southgate didn’t acknowledge him while he was embracing the other substitutes.
As you can imagine, this sparked something of a reaction amongst the Everton fanbase, with some theorising that there may be a problem between the two.
Indeed, some fans believe that the relationship between Southgate and Calvert-Lewin has deteriorated.
One fan played it down, claiming that Southgate simply didn’t see Calvert-Lewin, and that’s a school of thought we’re willing to buy into, especially when you consider how good of a man-manager Southgate reportedly is.
The likelihood is that this was an innocuous mistake from Southgate, but as with any fanbase, Everton supporters on social media jumped to the defence of their man.
