Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire is too good for West Ham United, whilst he would take him at Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old was recently stripped of the captain’s armband at Old Trafford, which just widened the debate that he could leave this summer, with David Moyes’ side expressing interest in his talents.

Even though former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor thinks Harry Maguire should be playing ‘European football’, which he would get at West Ham United, he feels the Englishman is ‘higher’ than that, as he told talkSPORT.

Whilst the Hammers might add to their backline this summer, it isn’t the priority area, with new midfielders needed after captain Declan Rice headed for the exit door.

That’s why these rumours about Maguire are surfacing, with many teams mentioned as he is, once again, set to play a role from the bench for Erik ten Hag.

That’s probably why it’s a good reason for him to leave and Agbonlahor thinks he should do just that, as he shared his thoughts on Maguire’s future.

“I think he (Maguire’s level) is a bit higher than that (West Ham),” said Agbonlahor. “I would have him at Villa. I think he is a top six or top seven.

“Of course (Villa are a higher level than West Ham). I actually had a bet with one of my mates that Villa finish above West Ham. Easy money.

“He should be playing European football, Harry Maguire. He starts at Spurs. But I would have him at Villa if we weren’t sorted already. Aston Villa are sorted centre-back-wise.”

Maguire suits Moyes’ system

Aston Villa have enough defenders after signing Pau Torres this summer, plus Villa’s high line would just cause Maguire to have sleepless nights.

But the England international would suit David Moyes’ system because his teams sit back a lot more and, rather than playing through the midfield, their preference is to go over it at the first time of asking.

Saying that, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the £190k-a-week star (Spotrac) stays put at Manchester United, even if ten Hag wants him gone.
