Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Glenn Murray and pundit Ben Haines have been discussing Sadio Mane and his performance against Leeds United.

The fact that Mohamed Salah hit his 100th Premier League goal against Leeds made most of the headlines, but Mane also put in a noteworthy performance.

The Senegalese winger had no fewer than 10 shots on goal, scoring just once, and the pundits noted that he was being rather greedy.

What’s been said?

Murray and his co-host gave their views on Mane.

“Yeah, an incredible achievement. I don’t think he had any help from Mane there either, he seemed absolutely determined to get his goal once Salah had got his, and I think he ended up with more shots than Leeds had,” Murray said.

“What is that Glenn? I’m sorry to butt in there, but what does that boil down to? We’re told there is no problem with the Liverpool front three, but against Leeds I would have been infuriated with Mane if I was playing alongside him,” Ben Haines said.

“It did become quite apparent didn’t it on the afternoon? It was obvious that Mane was determined to get on the scoresheet. I can’t complain too much because I have been that guy on a number of occasions,” Murray concluded.

Needs to stop

To be honest, Mane having so many shots against Leeds is fine.

The Whites were down to 10 men and the game was won, so what’s wrong with trying to get a goal for yourself.

However, in closer games against tougher opposition Mane, or any other attacker for that matter, won’t get away with this type of thing.

Of course, personal stats are great, but it’s a team game, and every player needs to be pulling in the same direction.
