‘I would expect more’: Jose Mourinho has his say on ‘good’ Aston Villa player

Writing in his column for The Sun ahead of England vs Scotland, Jose Mourinho has given his verdict on Aston Villa’s John McGinn.

Scotland head into this game as underdogs and if they’re going to get a result, they’ll need players like McGinn to be at their best.

McGinn didn’t have the greatest of showings against the Czech Republic earlier this week, and Mourinho says he expects more from him, labelling him a good Premier League player.

What does Mourinho think?

Mourinho believes there’s more to come from McGinn as well as Southampton’s Stuart Armstrong.

“Scotland are based on their three best players — Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson and Scott McTominay,” Mourinho wrote.

“And without Tierney against the Czech Republic, they were reduced to two top-quality players.

“I would expect more from John McGinn and Stuart Armstrong, they are good Premier League players.

“Scotland, though, are a team with a good mentality but without real talent, especially in attack.”

We have to agree with Mourinho in expecting more from McGinn.

The midfielder has shown with his performances with Aston Villa that he’s able to run a game against some of the best opposition Europe has to offer, but against the Czechs he wasn’t at his usual standard.

Did he play poorly on Monday? No, not at all, in fact, he was one of Scotland’s better players, but we all know how good he is when he’s at his best, and if we see that against England, the Scottish side will have a real chance of getting a result.

McGinn is bound to be well up for this one, so we may see something special here.
