Danny Murphy has urged Newcastle United to appoint Roy Hodgson as their next manager, as he told talkSPORT (18/10/21 at 10:15 am).
Newcastle are eight games into the season, sitting in the relegation zone and they have zero wins to their name.
Whilst things might be rosy in regards to the new Saudi-led ownership replacing the unpopular Mike Ashley, but at this rate, Newcastle are going to be the richest club in the Championship.
In the summer, Hodgson, 74, who is 14 years older than Steve Bruce, left Crystal Palace when his contract expired in the summer.
Given that the Magpies are in a relegation battle and there aren’t signs that things are going to improve.
Murphy, who worked under Hodgson at Fulham, urged the North East club to bring him to St James’ Park and help them survive relegation.
“You know who I would get in until the end of the season?,” said Murphy. “If they want to stay in the league, I would go and get Roy Hodgson. Then deal with what comes in the summer.”
Jim White responded with shock in his voice: “Roy Hodgson?! Okay, Danny has thrown in Roy Hodgson.”
It has to be questioned who is making the decisions in the Newcastle boardroom and what level of experience they have in the game.
There doesn’t seem to be any, at this moment in time, and whilst Newcastle’s recent takeover has resulted in a party-like atmosphere amongst the Toon Army faithful, the timing of it all hasn’t helped.
The new consortium don’t seem to have the jigsaw pieces in place, because of the quick ownership turnaround, and all of that doesn’t help when they are sitting in the relegation zone, conceding goals for fun and without a win this season.
There’s no way the Newcastle owners would turn to Hodgson because they would rather keep Bruce in charge, if that’s the case.
But something, during these coming weeks, has to give and move forward because Newcastle’s situation could become very alarming by the time the Christmas lights go up.
