Tyler Adams is at his first-ever World Cup, donning the USA armband and enhancing his reputation before he returns to Leeds United colours next month.

The 23-year-old is a popular figure in the USA and, after his nation recorded a goalless draw against England on Friday, Herculez Gomez labelled the midfielder at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a ‘monster’, as he told ESPN.

The US-based pundit and former international added that, if he could clone the Leeds summer signing, then he would do so ‘ten times over’.

Adams could argue that he was the Man of the Match against a number of familiar faces on Friday, as the USA head towards their final group B game knowing a win would help them progress.

But it’s all down to the hard work and platform they have laid down from their first two games, as Gomez lauded Adams.

“There was no better player on the field than Tyler Adams,” said Gomez. “He was a monster. I know Tyler Adams is like 5’8. But he plays like he is 6’4 and 240 (pounds).

“He was everywhere. Defensively and offensively getting the play going. The attitude. The charisma. The leadership. The youngest captain in this World Cup. He was the best player on the pitch. He continues to shine for the US men’s national team.

“If I could clone him ten times over, then I would. Even the calculated risks he takes, at the moment the ball leaves his feet, are adequate. They are appropriate and of the moment.”

ADAMS STOCK RISING

Jesse Marsch’s side might have produced a number of indifferent performances this season, including going months without a win.

But one man that has been a consistent performer has been their summer signing from RB Leipzig.

The USA need a win against Iran to progress to the knockout stages, and if they do that, then it will only increase and enhance the reputation of their leader in the middle.
