‘I would be upset’: Natalie Sawyer reacts to Thomas Frank and Tottenham manager rumours

Natalie Sawyer has reacted to the possibility of Thomas Frank leaving Brentford to become Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager.

The talkSPORT host, who is a Brentford fan, admitted that she would be ‘upset’ if Thomas Frank decided to join Tottenham, although, she can understand, especially from a financial standpoint, why he would make such a move.

Whilst the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Eddie Howe get plaudits for the jobs they have done this season, the man in Brentford’s dugout is going under the radar and Sawyer spoke about how Frank has ‘something special’ at Brentford, as she told talkSPORT Breakfast (01/06/23 at 6:25 am).

Working with one of the smallest budgets in the league, the job Frank has done with the Bees is quite remarkable.

Even on the last day of the Premier League season, they were in with a shout of securing European football, only for Aston Villa to do their job at home against Brighton.

But not only did Frank finish just one point behind Spurs, but the 49-year-old also did the double over the best team in the land, Manchester City, with Sawyer explaining why Frank would make a mistake taking the job in north London.

“You couldn’t begrudge him if he moved on and it would set up his family for life,” said Sawyer. “I would be upset if he left. I don’t want him to leave. I love him and I think he is so loved at the club as well.

“I have had conversations with him personally as well where I always have a yearly check-in ‘are you staying with us?’ And he told me the same thing, ‘it would take something special’. He knows he has something special at Brentford. He has helped cultivate and build, amongst other people.

“To start again at another club would be very hard. He would need time. Say if it was Tottenham. I don’t think Tottenham would give him that time.”

FRANK SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE TOTTENHAM JOB

The big issue with Spurs is that there doesn’t seem to be any sense of forward direction at the club or clear planning ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening.

Not only is there no sporting director at the club, but the future of star man Harry Kane is in doubt. Added to the fact that they won’t be playing European football.

This Spurs job is swallowing up managers, even those with trophies to their name, so Frank’s best bet would be to stay put and continue the fine job he is doing with Brentford.
