Heung-Min Son has admitted that he would have been ‘nervous’ too like the Tottenham fans seemingly were during the early stages of their 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, as he told BBC Sport.

After losing three Premier League games on the bounce, Spurs bounced back, before the international break, with a much-needed three points.

It was a nervy start from the home team, with Villa playing with more energy, pressing higher up and forcing their opponents into mistakes.

Given that type of start, it would have been understandable for the home fans to feel a little edgy, not forgetting that they came into the match having lost three games on the bounce.

But despite Villa’s early pressure, they didn’t really create any clear-cut chances early on, as Spurs settled into the game and took a deserved lead through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s well-placed shot from the edge of the box.

In the second half, Villa were the better side, with Ollie Watkins netting his first of the season, but straight after, Nuno’s side hitback, following an outstanding run from Son, who forced Matt Targett to put the ball into the back of his own net after a ball across the six-yard box.

After the game, Son was asked about his supporters being ‘nervous’ during the early exchanges and he issued this response.

“The fans don’t want to lose, we are playing at home,” said Son. “After the last three games, we could be nervous.

“If I am a fan then I would be nervous as well. But players should put responsibility on the pitch, which we did today. And I am very happy.”

Son was perhaps the Man of the Match against Villa, as he caused Dean Smith’s side no end of problems.

When the South Korea international performs at that quality then not many players can live with his speed, movement and ball-carrying ability.

He may not have got on the scoresheet today, but Son did register a much-needed two assists for his side, in what was a morale-boosting win before the international break.
