Rio Ferdinand has suggested on BT Sport that he is worried that Tottenham Hotspur’s Joe Rodon simply isn’t doing enough defensive work in training.
Rodon looked fairly sharp after being drafted into Tottenham’s defence last night, but he made a huge error which was punished.
The 23-year-old failed to deal with a routine cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold, which allowed Sadio Mane to crass the ball in at the far post to seal Liverpool’s 3-1 victory.
Rodon only had a blast the ball clear and the danger would have been averted, but he opted to try and control it in his own box.
And Ferdinand has questioned whether Rodon is actually doing enough defensive work in training.
“Rodon has to just clear that with his left foot. This comes down to repetition,” he said.
“I worry with young defenders now, are they doing enough defending of these types of situation in training? That is concentration, sort your feet out and clear it back where it came from.”

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho actually came out and defended Rodon after the game, suggesting that he will keep his place in his side’s next match.
Spurs are due to take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, when Mourinho and Spurs will hope that Rodon has learnt from his error last night, and produce a rock solid display.
