Jürgen Klopp appears to have taken a lighthearted dig at Jordan Henderson after Liverpool recorded a 3-0 win on Monday.

The Reds notched their seventh successive Premier League victory when defeating Leicester in a game which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold score a remarkable free-kick.

In his post-match interview, Jürgen Klopp took credit for the goal, claiming that it was his idea and Liverpool should have already scored from the same routine on three occasions this season, with Jordan Henderson spoiling one attempt.

What’s the story?

Well – speaking to Sky Sports after the 90 minutes had ended – Klopp said: “It’s the best free-kick routine that we have.

“We should’ve scored from this free-kick routine three times this season but we defended it ourselves. I won’t mention the name, you can watch it on YouTube. I take it by the way. I said already, that’s my goal.”

After the 3-0 win over Leicester, footage emerged online of Henderson blocking an effort from Alexander-Arnold with his head in the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace back in February, from a similar free-kick routine.

You can see that moment below.

Therefore, the mystery man Klopp refused to name does appear to be Henderson, with the £20m man’s inability to get out of the way at Selhurst Park preventing Alexander-Arnold from adding one more goal to his tally of four this season.

Liverpool close to a stunning achievement under Klopp

If Liverpool somehow manage to achieve Champions League qualification this season, it would be right up there with Klopp’s best achievements at Anfield when you consider where the Reds were a few months ago.

Liverpool were left in eighth place after their 4-1 defeat against Manchester City at the start of April, with some fans even talking about the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.

However, a nine-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, including seven successive wins, means Liverpool are now just one point off the top four with two games remaining.

Newcastle and Manchester United both have a game in hand over the Reds, which complicates things slightly, but if Liverpool win their final two outings, anything is possible.
