Graeme Souness told Super Sunday on Sky Sports that he is ‘delighted’ Rangers have become champions today but he wishes Celtic had beat Dundee United to delay the inevitable.
The Ibrox legend claimed he wanted Rangers to go to Celtic and win the Premiership crown as Steven Gerrard wins his first title as manager.
Celtic’s goalless draw at Tannadice, added with Rangers’ win against St Mirren yesterday, has confirmed that the Gers are champions once again.
Ex-Celtic man Roy Keane also shared his thoughts on Rangers becoming champions, as he stated that his old club ‘will bounce back next year like all great clubs do’.
This was Souness’ reaction to Rangers ending Celtic’s ten in a row charge and being confirmed as title winners today.
“Delighted, delighted for Steven Gerrard,” said Souness. “And all his team. It’s been a long time coming. Celtic have had a period of domination, which was uncomfortable for us Rangers supporters.
“Thoroughly deserve it. They have been fantastic all season. I just wish I was in Glasgow right now. There’s part of me that wishes that Celtic had won today, so Rangers had to go to Parkhead, and them being the in-form team and winning it there would have compounded Celtic’s problems.
“But I’ll take that today. They have been fantastic (in the manner they have won it). Fair play to the players and the staff. And, I have to say, the Rangers support because they have had a period where they haven’t had turmoil like they have had to experience in the last ten years.”
Keane was asked if he had a word of celebration for Rangers: “For Rangers? No,” replied the TV pundit. “Listen, it’s obviously been a tough year for Celtic but they will bounce back next year like all great clubs do.”

It’s all about getting the champagne out and much more for all associated with Rangers.
Whilst they have important Europa League knockout matches coming up, this was the main aim at the start of the campaign.
In 2018, Gerrard left Merseyside as an Anfield legend, now he’s in Glasgow writing his name as an Ibrox legend, but he’ll be pretty keen to add more title wins to his name during these coming years.
