Glen Hoddle has suggested Rangers manager Steven Gerrard on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, May 8, 2021) as a possible candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial role.

The Tottenham legend has suggested that Rangers manager Gerrard may not be willing to wait until Jurgen Klopp leaves to take charge of Liverpool.

Gerrard is a Liverpool legend, and one suspects that the long-term ambition of the former England international midfielder is to manage the Reds.

Spurs are on the hunt for a permanent manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month.

Ryan Mason is in charge of Spurs until the end of the season, and it is unlikely that club chairman Daniel Levy will give him the role on a permanent basis.

Hoddle said on BT Sport 1 (11:53am, May 8, 2021): “Steven Gerrard, I will put his name. I don’t know if Steven can wait for Klopp to start hitting the ropes in a few years’ time to go to Liverpool, it doesn’t work like that sometimes.”

Gerrard has been superb for Rangers and has guided the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title this season.

The 40-year-old’s Rangers side play good football, but the Gers are practical and effective when they need to be.

Gerrard took charge of Rangers back in 2018, and he has built a team in his image that has put an end to Celtic’s domination of Scottish football.

Tottenham are a massive club, and the chance to work with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli could be very appealing to Gerrard.

However, Rangers could play in the Champions League next season, and Gerrard may not be willing to leave the Ibrox club just after guiding them to the league title.
