Emerson Royal has been speaking to DAZN about his start to life at Tottenham, following a £25.8m move from Real Betis.

What’s the story?

Well, the Brazilian swapped Spain for England over the summer, arriving in north London as a replacement for Serge Aurier at Spurs.

It sounds like he’s grateful for Tottenham’s faith in him, as he claims Spurs ‘supported’ him during negotiations and also convinced his family.

However, Emerson had more words of praise to aim at Real Betis.

The 22-year-old even admitted he will ‘surely’ return to the club one day.

DAZN quote the South American as saying: “I have a love for Betis. Betis helped me a lot to be the player that I am today.

“They helped me since I arrived, that I came from a Brazilian league that had nothing to do with the Spanish league. Surely, later on, I will play for Betis again.”

There you have it. If you expected Emerson to retire at Tottenham, you might be disappointed, we’re afraid.

After a nightmare of a Premier League debut, which saw Wilfried Zaha twist him in knots, Emerson is starting to settle.

He made his third Premier League start against Aston Villa on Sunday, and delivered a solid display as Spurs collected three points.

As WhoScored shows, the South American made two tackles and four interceptions, while also making a massive seven clearances.

Offensively, Emerson was also impressive, as he registered one shot, one key pass and two dribbles, while also winning three freekicks.

In fairness to him, the defender is showing signs of improvements pretty quickly, which bodes well for him and Tottenham.

Aged just 22, if he can better himself this quickly, who knows how good he’ll be when he reaches 24 or 25?

With his potential, the sky is the limit for Emerson.
