‘I will never accept’: Mourinho makes it clear what he won’t accept as Tottenham boss

Jose Mourinho has stated that he will ‘never accept’ taking a draw as Tottenham manager, as he told Premier League Productions.

The Spurs boss shared that there is now a sense of ‘maturity’ from his Tottenham players, who are no longer interested in how the opposition are going to play and are more focused on ‘how we want to play’.

In three days time, it will be one year since Spurs made the decision to appoint the trophy-laden coach for the popular Mauricio Pochettino.

It isn’t a surprise that Mourinho is trying to change the mindset at Tottenham and given the length of time he has been at the club, it seems as though things are changing for the better.

“We are in a situation where we are able to go to every match to win it,” said Mourinho. “It’s as simple as that. Are we going to win? I don’t know maybe we lose.

“But the mentality and the level of preparation that we have at the tactical level is that we go to every match to win. Last season, we were always worried about how the opponent is going to play. The tactical culture of the club was not enough to go to every game and to be confident about what we want to do.

“We know we can lose any match. But I am not interested in how they are going to play. I know how we want to play. And this is a very good feeling. This is a feeling of maturity.

“This is a feeling of the team going into a certain direction where we go to every game and if somebody offers me a draw before the game, it doesn’t matter which the game, I will never accept. We can lose but we don’t accept anything less than going to a game and trying to win it.”

In recent years, Spurs have always been accused of not having the mentality of being able to get over that dotted line.

Well, in Mourinho, they have a manager who doesn’t just know how to get over that line, but beyond it, and that’s something that is desperately needed in North London.

Spurs fans want to win a trophy and Mourinho has picked up silverware at every club he has been at, so added that with the start they have made to the new season then there is a reason to be excited.
