Everton defender Lucas Digne has wrote on his Instagram story ‘I will miss you’ after Aston Villa’s Frederic Guilbert moved out on loan to Strasbourg.

It has been tough going for Guilbert this season, as the right-back has failed to make a single Premier League appearance.

Matty Cash’s arrival in the summer, added with Dean Smith opting to push the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady ahead of Guilbert in the pecking order, reduced his game time even more.

And when it was announced that Guilbert had returned to France on a temporary basis, his fellow countryman issued this response on his Instagram story:

“All the best my bro,” said Digne. “I will miss you.”

Ironically enough, Guilbert made his Premier League debut for Villa against Everton last season, with Smith’s men coming out as 2-0 winners on the night.

Guilbert played the entire match, with Everton’s £18 million flying fullback [BBC Sport] on the left-hand side.

It remains to be seen whether Guilbert will be offered the chance to take to the field alongside Digne again, or whether this is really the end of his Villa career.

The fact that the 2019 signing has only gone out on loan is perhaps a positive sign, but a lot has to happen for the Frenchman to dethrone the thriving Cash now.
