Former Liverpool and Leeds United striker Robbie Fowler has said on Twitter that he is ready to become the new manager of Sunderland.
The former England international has said that he would take the Sunderland managerial job if he was offered and has praised the Championship club’s fans.
Fowler made the comments in response to former Sunderland star Stephen Elliott saying that he wants the Black Cats to bring in the 47-year-old.
Sunderland are on the hunt for a new manager following the departure of Alex Neil to Championship rivals Stoke City.
The Chronicle have reported that Tony Mowbray has agreed in principle to take over as the new head coach of Sunderland.

Robbie Fowler wants to become new Sunderland manager
Unlikely to happen
In our view, Sunderland are unlikely to appoint Robbie Fowler as their new manager.
Fowler is a Liverpool legend and has managerial experience with Muangthong United, Brisbane Roar, East Bengal and Chennaiyin FC.
However, Sunderland are likely to go with someone who has managed in the Championship.
After all, the Black Cats have only just got promoted to the second tier of English football, and they will surely want someone who has the pedigree of keeping teams in the division.
