Feyenoord’s Orkun Kökcü has been speaking to Voetbal International about the interest in his services, as well as his plans for the future.
The 2-cap Turkey international was the subject of interest from Arsenal and Everton last year, as Sky Sports revealed.
Leeds and Leicester are also credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, with that information found within Voetbal International‘s interview.
Speaking to the Dutch news outlet, Kökcü said: “I still have a contract until 2025, but the situation has changed. Feyenoord have been very open about the financial situation, and it is clear that the club is ending up in the minus.
“If a club comes to me with a good story and Feyenoord can make money from it, I can imagine that I will listen to it.”
It very much sounds as if the midfield maestro is open to leaving the Netherlands if a good opportunity arose.
That should come as welcome news to the aforementioned Premier League quartet, if they’re still keeping tabs on his progress over in the Eredivisie.
So, for those of you who are wondering, what type of player is Kökcü?
Well, he doesn’t seem to be a versatile presence, as all of his 21 appearances this season have come right in the centre of midfield as Transfermarkt shows.
In those outings, the Turk has just two goals and one assist, so you wouldn’t label him as someone who makes a big impact in the final third.
WhoScored believe his strengths are dribbling, concentrating, long shots and set-pieces.
In that respect, and after watching some footage of him, it seems as if he’s a technical midfielder who helps keep the game ticking over in the middle.
He must have something special about him, or Arsenal, Leeds, Everton and Leicester – four quality sides – wouldn’t be watching him.
