Jeff Stelling has joked that he will lend Newcastle United ‘a few quid’ to buy Dan Burn from Brighton, as he told Sky Sports News (29/01/22 at 2:55 pm).
For some days now, Newcastle have been trying to sign the 29-year-old defender, but at this moment in time, there is no breakthrough.
After bringing Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood through their doors, Newcastle are eager, before transfer deadline day, to add more quality to their squad.
Sky Sports have reported that the Magpies are pushing for the versatile defender’s talents and they have had a bid rejected for the player.
Whilst Newcastle’s Saudi-led owners have all the money in the world to buy whoever they want, they aren’t going to go crazy and make this already-inflated transfer window more inflated.
Nonetheless, as the Magpies try to get a deal for Burn over the line, Stelling had a brilliant message for the club.
“I tell you guys up at St James’ Park,” said Stelling. “I will lend you a few quid if you need it to go and buy Dan Burn.
“If that’s what you want, then I can lend it you. It’s a very reasonable rate of interest as well.”

The fact that Burn is a boyhood Newcastle fan might work in the club’s favour, but they don’t have much time to get the deal over the line.
Less than 48 hours remain before the January transfer slams shut and then those at St James’ Park will either head for disaster or one of the greatest seasons of their lives.
If the Toon Army faithful watch their side go down, then it will well and truly destroy the short-to-medium term hopes.
But if they secure their status in May, then in the summer, this Newcastle train will surge forward and not have a care in the world as to who they take down along the way.
